New Teacher Resource Program
Teachers Network has created a series of self-guided online courses for new teachers who wish to improve their professional practice. As part of Teachers Network's New Teacher Resouce Program, new teachers can participate in nine courses that are essential for every teacher. All courses are self-guided and conveniently available online from a teacher's home or school computer. Teachers can follow along at their own pace and at their convenience.
How to Use the Internet in Your Classroom
Whether you're a technology wiz or a neophyte, using the internet in your classroom is a learned skill. Here are engaging, fun ways to add new and exciting strategies to your pedagogic repertoire. We'll teach you how to motivate your students by using the internet in the classroom. Then, go from novice to knowledgeable - incorporating tools such as wikis, digital images, streaming video, blogs, and interactive web resources for instruction.
Professional Teachers Program
Teachers Network, a non-profit organization that leads the field in teacher professional development - by teachers for teachers - is offering the Professional Teachers Program. The program provides high-quality materials as well as online courses to sustain, support, and further develop the professional skills and knowledge needed by all mid-career to veteran teachers.
Balanced Literacy
Learn how to do balanced literacy in the classroom with three experienced teachers. You'll spend “the morning” in three different elementary schools experiencing firsthand how to incorporate such balanced literacy elements in your classroom as word work, independent work time, read aloud, reader's and writer's workshops, guided reading, shared reading, accountable talk, mini-lesson. See how these teachers match the needs of their students and reflect on their practice.
Introduction to Action Research
There is a recent trend in the number of teachers taking advantage of “action research.” But what exactly is action research and how can the ESL classroom benefit from this reflective teaching practice?

  Professional Credit Courses (P-Credit Courses)
For New York Teachers
Summer Session: 2010
Registration opens June 1.
Classes start July 6 and end August 13.
New York City Teachers can earn three “P” credits for each online course. You can earn these credits from the comfort of your own home. “P” credits can be applied towards salary differentials for New York City Department of Education employees. In addition, for those who hold a professional certification, each course earns 30 hours towards the 175 hours required to maintain NYS certification You may apply these credits beginning the July 1st after the effective date on your certificate.
The cost for each course is $300.00. The cost of the course includes a $100 ASPDP non-refundable course fee and a $200 non-refundable Teachers Network Registration fee. Please note: This does not include the cost of materials which may be purchased during the Online Registration. Throughout the courses, references will be made to the necessary materials. Please check your materials order carefully. You may already own the required items if you have previously taken a Teachers Network course. There are no refunds for P credit courses or materials.
