Creating a Class Web Page
Carolyn Hornik

Are you looking for an effective means to communicate with students and their parents? A class web page can be just the tool you’ve been searching for. You can post homework assignments, a supply list, upcoming projects, student work samples, trips, a calendar, and special events. Include links to information students are studying and/or reliable student search engines for easy access to research resources. Post your educational philosophy along with expectations for the students in the class.

There are many web resources that enable teachers, even those with limited computer proficiency, to create a quick and easy class web page. The two listed below offer step by step directions for creating a class web page.

For those of you who are more adept at web design, here is a list of links to web editing software:

Microsoft FrontPage
Netscape Communicator
Adobe PageMill

A class web page allows parents to know, at a glance, all about the educational activities going on in their children’s classroom. It is an effective means for a teacher to disseminate information to students and parents. It is also an excellent venue for showcasing student work.
